Elevate + Auburn

A few weeks ago, Elevate had the opportunity to host an event at Auburn University. The event, Emerge Auburn, was unlike any other the Elevate team has had the privilege of being a part of. This event was loaded with energy, encouragement, and passion. The purpose of this event was to kick off a new student organization striving to create a successive leadership journey. It was a Sunday night on the plains in sweet home Auburn, Alabama. The old Beard–Eaves–Memorial Coliseum was filled with hundreds of freshman that were eagerly awaiting to hear from speakers such as the University’s President Steven Leath, SGA President Jacqueline Keck, Head Baseball Coach Butch Thompson, and celebrity comedian Jeff Foxworthy (pictured below). Each speaker had the chance to give leadership tips and advice on how to optimize their time as students at Auburn University.

So, where did Elevate fit into all of this?

We had the opportunity to not only host the event and handle the run of show, but also engage with the Auburn staff members and students that were in attendance. Our team was welcomed with open arms, enthusiastic conversation, and endless gratitude. In the short, eight hours spent on Auburn’s campus, our team felt fully immersed into the Auburn culture, creed, and family.

Why did it matter that our team fully immersed into the Auburn culture?

Great event hosts create remarkable moments by fully committing to every event

Because each event is different, it’s important to avoid a one-size-fits-all mentality. As an event host, it’s necessary to take each event case-by-case to be sure you’re crafting a one-of-a-kind experience for that particular group of people.

Fully committing to every event means:

  • Spending intentional time getting to know your client
  • Focusing on building relationships with the guests
  • Creating a unique culture and experience fitting for that client/event
  • Putting time and effort into the small, yet remarkable, moments
It’s important to get to know your client early in the planning process. Listen to their goals so you can plan a custom experience fitting to their hopes and needs. You’ll also better understand how to partner alongside your client on event day if you take the time upfront to get to know their personality and preferences.

On event day, the host can make or break an experience. Building a relationship with the host isn’t a guest’s expectations, however, is a powerful way to surprise and delight. As a host, if you take time to converse with guests when you’re off the mic, they’ll feel welcomed and special throughout the day.

Lastly, it’s important to avoid cookie-cutter event methods and, rather, plan to create custom experiences for your audience. Putting time and effort into the small moments, as well as the main event activations will help create a remarkable experience.

Applying this event hosting best practice will help you create memorable experiences for your clients and guests. When prepping for your next hosting opportunity, carefully listen to the client’s hopes and vision for the day. Plan and design all event activations with those hopes in mind, allowing yourself to deliver a custom experience and culture unique to your client and their attendees.

Emerge Auburn was an opportunity for our team to craft an event special to the Auburn students. This was a night full of remarkable moments.

And in true Elevate fashion…

Remarkable moments almost always get celebrated with the shooting of a confetti cannon. So, what better way to end the night than with the shooting of over 40 confetti cannons coming from every angle of the coliseum accompanied by strobe lights and “Turn Down for What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon. Our team watched as hundreds of Auburn students jumped around, in awe as confetti fell from the ceiling and covered almost every inch of the coliseum floor.

Elevate not only had the opportunity to leave their mark on Auburn University’s campus, but Auburn undoubtedly left their mark on the Elevate team by the way in which we were welcomed into the Auburn Family. The remarkability of Emerge Auburn is something our team will never forget. And with that, there’s not much more to say besides, WAR EAGLE!
